Ok wally has this kayak for $225 and one of the reviewers claims you can put a sail on it. Searching the internet i don't see the sail for sale. Do they make kayak sized sailboats or something similar on the cheap? Thanks

I have a Sunfish which is a pretty small sail boat it works pretty good you can easily find a good one for $800-1000.|||Don't waste your money on a Walmart kayak, They are flimsy, poorly designed and will oilcan on you the first season. That thing is just for sitting in a backwater with a fishing pole, not for moving and navigating in wind and waves. If you really want to sail a kayak you need something with a much better hull design. There are sails available to add onto kayaks (look at product reviews at http://www.paddling.net for examples) but you really need a longer, narrower sea kayak with a rudder to use them effectively.
It sounds like you would be better off with a small sailboat, like the other answerer suggested. I used to have a Sea Snark (similar boat is a Sunflower) which is a great one or two person starter sailboat that you can easily transport on a car top. They are a blast to sail -- wish I had not sold mine. They often come up for sale on Craigslist. Look for one of those and I think you will be happier.|||Macgregor used a sail on his kayak. His kayak was almost a small yacht. He used a double bladed paddle and oars as the occasion demanded. Today's play kayaks are ill suited to be mounted with a sail. A canoe can be sailed with the addition of sideboards and a rudder. Any boat can be sailed. You will need to mount an outrigger on it to prevent capsizing. Why not simply buy a small used sailboat?
