how do i tell if my engine is a big twin or an evo? also, it came with a kuryakyn air cleaner which is leaking oil from the breather tubes(is old) i dont have the manual|||All H-D engines made for the fatboy in 1995 were "big twins", which is the term used for all H-d engines except for sportsters. All H-D engines built in 1995 were evolution, or "evo" engines.
The oil leaking from the breather tubes is blow by from the crankcase breather tubes. It was a very common problem with the EVO engines. There is no "easy"fix for the problem. Just clean it off. It will take a while to build up again.|||I have a 1990 Fat-boy 80 cubic Inch Evo (Big Twin) At a certain date Harley Changed To Evo. (not sure of date give me time and I'll find it) it was always a big twin ( I believe) Then they have the V- Big Twin which is also a Evo.
about your oil problem:
the stock arrangement has an oil-filled pressure zone (the rocker box) connected more or less directly toa low-pressure zone(the intake system, air cleaner, and carb.), this is creating a siphon effect like through a soda straw at a high rpm. allow your "head breather" to vent to atmospheric pressure, and you minimize the problem. other words, don't let the carb. suck all the oil out of the your top end. this isn't so easy with the stock air cleaner' but using a high-flow unit, like screamin eagle, makes it feasible to simply reroute the vent hose to the atmosphere rather than plump it back into the cleaner.
if that isn't a complete cure you can remove the rocker boxes and enlarge the drain down holes one drill size larger than the existing hole should be plenty.
then theres a couple different ways but these should take care of the problem
if you choose to vent it to the atmosphere make sure you put an air breather on (this is what I did and it cured my problem)
good luck and keep it on two wheeles
-Tom|||Big twin is an old nickname for HDs, if you have a 95 HD you have an 80 inch evo unless somebody messed with it.
You better get a model-specific clymer manual, you can expect to do maintenance and repairs on any bike that old.
Had so damn many bikes I cant remember them all.|||your bike is an evolution and since its not a sportster its a big twin. I Always vent my crankcase breather to atmosphere and not into the air cleaner!
