I put on the Kuryakyn Hypercharger on my 2005 V-Star 650 Custom. The pipes on the bike are factory which have been gutted. The bike runs great until I get into a good headwind. Then it acts like it is running out of gas. If I cover the butterflies with my hand as I'm riding, the bike roars back into life. I've been told that I need to go up one more size on the jets, but I'm not so sure. Any thoughts?|||When the bike starts dieing, apply the choke in small increments.
The additional fuel the choke adds, is similar to increasing the jet sizes.
There are additional adjustments besides the main jets - make sure you know
what you are doing.

Lean running can do some expensive damage to your engine. Another option is to have a local shop dyno the bike to be absolutely sure it is set up correctly. Costs a bit but cheaper than fixing a burnt piston later. Upping the main jet and needle is not difficult or costly and you'll know right away if it solves your problem. I suspect that the Hyper charger is causing so much turbulence at the carb it interferes with smooth airflow. Stock Air Boxes are in reality carefully engineered marvels with considerations for intake pulse waves, noise reduction and smooth flow specific to that particular engine.
